Denmark launches a new “Peace and Stabilization Programme” in Georgia

The Danish Ministry of Defence has announced a new four-year project for supporting Peace and Stabilization in Georgia. The program is estimated to 27,12 M GEL over the next four years and it will focus on training and strengthening Georgia’s defence and emergency service institutions.
Through the Peace and Stabilisation Fund, Defence, Danish national guard and Emergency Services personnel will contribute over the next four years (2023-2026) to strengthening Georgia's resilience and deterrence of potential Russian aggression, as well as supporting Georgia’s NATO aspirations through advisers, mobile training teams and equipment donations.

“It is vital for our security that we contribute to stabilisation tasks in countries like Georgia, bordering Russia at a time of war in Europe. Denmark has already supported Ukraine's war of liberation considerably, both militarily and financially. With our new contribution to Georgia, we are helping to strengthen security on Europe's external border,"- says acting Defence Minister of Denmark, Troels Lund Poulsen.

The new peace and stabilisation programme is a continuation and development of Denmark's current contribution to NATO's efforts in Georgia, which in recent years has focused on the development of Georgia's civilian crisis management capacity with the deployment of a senior adviser from the Danish Emergency Management Agency. Denmark has also previously contributed to the NATO-Georgia Joint Training and Evaluation Center.

“The war in Ukraine has underlined the importance of ensuring the sovereignty, peace, and stability of the countries in the region. This applies to Georgia, for example, where strengthened regional stability is crucial to counter Russian aggression” says Acting Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen.
In addition to sending advisers, the support will include mobile training teams, courses and seminars, and donations to Georgia.
