Denmark and Georgia sign new agreement on strengthening bilateral cooperation

Today Minister for Foreign Affairs Lars Løkke Rasmussen signed a new cooperation agreement with Georgia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Ilia Darchiashvili. The cooperation agreement strengthens the bilateral relations to Georgia, where Denmark opened a new embassy earlier this year.
Today Lars Løkke Rasmussen hosted Georgia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, who is currently on his first visit to Denmark. During the meeting, the two ministers signed a new cooperation agreement to mark the strengthened bilateral relationship between Denmark and Georgia.

The agreement underlines the continued focus on important priorities, such as good governance, democracy, and human rights. At the same time, it is a step towards strengthened bilateral cooperation in a number of areas, such as green transition, security, and culture. Finally, the two countries commit to strengthening the bilateral dialogue with regular high-level consultations.
As part of the Danish Government's Foreign and Security Policy Strategy, Denmark is increasing its support for the “frontline states” neighbouring Russia in the EU's eastern neighbourhood. Georgia is one of the countries that has applied for EU membership, and where Denmark is engaged in supporting the reform efforts. This has not least been expressed with the opening of a new embassy in Tbilisi in May.
