Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen visits Georgia on 14-15 May 2023

Today Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen starts his two-day visit to Georgia on 14-15 May on the occasion of the official opening of the Danish Embassy in Georgia.

Foreign Minister Rasmussen will be accompanied by a delegation of Danish Parliamentarians from the Foreign Affairs Committee as well as a business delegation. During his visit, Foreign Minister Rasmussen and Parliamentarians will have meetings with Prime Minister Garibashvili and Foreign Minister Darchiashvili.

The visit is an opportunity to reiterate Denmark’s firm support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Foreign Minister Rasmussen and Parliamentarians will visit the Administrative Boundary Line and observe first-hand the ongoing Russian borderization.

Statement by Foreign Minister Rasmussen:

 

“The opening of the Danish Embassy in Georgia is a testament to our steadfast support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. We are stepping up our engagement in these times where our support matters more than ever before. Denmark remains committed to strengthening Georgia’s resilience and security through our bilateral defence cooperation, including our new Peace and Stabilisation Program in Georgia, worth 27 M GEL.”

The business delegation has special expertise in the energy and water sector. The business program contains sessions with Foreign Minister Rasmussen and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili, International Financial Institutions (IFIs) as well as Georgian companies.

”Georgia has embarked on an ambitious plan for the green transition. As a world leader in green energy and water management solutions, Denmark is ready to help Georgia on this path. By bringing together Danish and Georgian businesses and international financial institutions, we hope to unlock the full potential of the green transition in Georgia.”

Denmark continues to support Georgia in the areas of democracy and human rights, sustainable growth, green transition, and social dialogue in Georgia under the Danish Neighbourhood Program. The current budget of 15 M GEL per year is expected to increase over the coming years. The Danish Peace and Stabilisation Program in Georgia supports Georgia’s resilience and security with a budget of 27 M GEL (2023-2026). In addition, the Danish New Democracy Fund supports the cooperation between Danish and Georgian CSOs.

During his visit, Minister Rasmussen will also meet with the Danish Youth Council and their Georgian civil society youth organizations.
