Announcement: Please be informed that older Danish banknotes and the current Danish 1000-krone banknote will no longer be legal tender after 31 May 2025. Older banknotes mean the series of Danish banknotes issued in 1944, 1952, 1972 and 1997. These series are still legal tender in shops etc. today, but will cease to be legal tender, along with the 1000-krone banknote in the current series (from 2009), after 31 May 2025. Have you checked if you have any older Danish banknotes or Danish 1000-krone notes in your drawer at home? If you do have some of these banknotes, you can still use them in Danish shops until 31 May 2025. However, after 31 May 2025, the banknotes will cease to be legal tender. So remember to take the banknotes with you next time you visit Denmark. On Danmarks Nationalbank's website you can see which banknotes will no longer be legal tender and which ones will still be legal tender after 31 May 2025. You can also see what you can do with the banknotes until then.
